Assistant Professor of Psychiatry

Dr. Weinstein is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and a Pennsylvania-licensed clinical psychologist specializing in neuropsychology. She has extensive experience conducting neuropsychological evaluations both in clinical and research settings. Her expertise is in evaluation and diagnosis of neurodegenerative disorders in mid to late life, including mild cognitive impairment, Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias, and HIV-associated neurocognitive disorders. She is a faculty neuropsychologist in the Geriatric Neuropsychology Research Program at UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital, an associated faculty member at the University of Pittsburgh Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center, and co-director of the Benedum Geriatric Center neuropsychology service. Dr. Weinstein’s research focuses on biopsychosocial factors (including psychosocial context and physical activity) that influence cognitive pathology. She is using mobile health technology to capture cognitive performance outside of the clinic and in daily life. Dr. Weinstein has developed methods for determining cognitive status in adults with HIV, treatment-resistant depression, cerebrovascular disease, and adults with low literacy levels. Dr. Weinstein is committed to providing culturally informed neuropsychological care to communities at greatest risk for cognitive decline, including (but not limited to) individuals with mental health disorders, with low literacy, and with reduced access to healthcare.
