Brian Thoma, PhD, is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Dr. Thoma’s program of research examines the mental and behavioral health of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) individuals. His recent work has focused on risk for suicidal behavior among LGBT adolescents, and he is currently the Principal Investigator of a National Institute of Mental Health grant to study biological mechanisms of suicidal behavior among LGBT adolescents. He has expertise in using social media sampling to recruit samples of LGBT youth for online studies, and his prior work has identified psychosocial determinants of HIV-related sexual risk behaviors among young gay and bisexual men.
