Assistant Professor of Psychiatry

César G. Escobar-Viera, PhD, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry with a secondary appointment in Behavioral and Community Health Sciences. Dr. Escobar-Viera is the Director of the Program for Internet Delivered Interventions on LGBTQA+ Mental Health (PRIDE iM) at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He is a psychiatrist and health services researcher with a master’s degree in public health. Dr. Escobar-Viera’s mission as a researcher is to help reducing mental health disparities among sexual and gender minority (SGM) youth and young adults. To do this, he leverages multiple methods (e.g., mixed methods, survey analysis, qualitative methods) with two main goals: (1) determining the influence of social media interactions on mental health of SGM people, and (2) developing and testing conversational agents (e.g., digital mental health interventions for SGM people.
