Assistant Professor of Psychiatry

Paula Marie Powe, M.D. is a Board-Certified Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. She is also the Medical Director of the Theiss Center for Child and Adolescent Trauma at UPMC, where her clinical work is based in Infant Mental Health. Her research focuses on the primary prevention of trauma, early childhood adversity, and toxic stress in young children, which can lead to cognitive, social, and emotional issues, and subsequent mental health diagnoses. Given that these experiences occur disproportionately within the Black community, her studies engage Black fathers in Community-Partnered Participatory Research (CPPR) and Implementation Science methods.
